APPLICABLE TRAINING:
I am a practicing attorney, in good standing, since 1997. I have spent six years in the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office, five of those years were spent as a felony trial prosecutor. As a prosecutor, I have tried nearly 100 criminal jury trials, successfully convicting murders, rapist, armed robbers, child molesters and drug dealers and sending them to the penitentiary. During my term as a prosecutor, I served as one of the DA's Office's Domestic Abuse prosecutors, successfully prosecuting domestic abusers, ending the circle of violence for many families. I left the district attorney's office in order to practice domestic and civil law. At the law firm, I gained invaluable experience in civil litigation, trying domestic matters concerning custody, relocation and alimony and general civil litigation matters before the judges of the 24th.

Member of Immaculate Conception Church
Member of the Academy of Sacred Heart Mother's Club
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE AND POLITICAL ORGANIZATION MEMBERSHIPS:
I have volunteered in the campaigns of Paul Connick, Martha Sassone, Butch Ward, Donnie Rowan and Thomas Capella.

1.What is the depth of your court experience: i.e. number of trials; magistrate service; District Attorney's Office?

I have spent six years in the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office, five of those years were spent as a felony trial prosecutor. As a prosecutor, I have tried nearly 100 criminal jury trials, successfully convicting murders, rapist, armed robbers, child molesters and drug dealers and sending them to the penitentiary. During my term as a prosecutor, I served as one of the DA's Office's Domestic Abuse prosecutors, successfully prosecuting domestic abusers, ending the circle of violence for many families. 2. What measures need to be taken to improve the process of case assignment to achieve better balance and fairness for the court judges?

The current "random allotment" of cases to each of the 16 divisions of court, is the best system to ensure "judge shopping" does not occur and that each division of court is randomly allotted approximately the same number of cases.

3. How will you avoid the public perception that attorney contributions to judicial elections lead to favoritism in judicial rulings?

I support and adhere to the judicial canons. I believe all candidates should adhere to the judicial canons, in particular, Canon 7, which prohibits judges and judicial candidates from soliciting or having knowledge of the contributions made to their campaigns. If this canon is adhered to, then there can be no appearance of favoritism to contributors. The best way to assure that there can be no appearance of impropriety, is to render rulings that are well-founded in the law, give all parties the opportunity to present their cases, and avoid ex parte communications with both attorneys and litigants.

4.Describe what you think of the current pace of Jefferson Parish's judicial process? If it is too slow, what do you see is the biggest bottleneck; or if it is too fast, what do you believe are the consequences?

The Jefferson Parish judicial process has made significant strides in providing litigants swift access to the courts, particularly in domestic law cases, by the use of hearing officers and commissioners, setting cases within 30 days of filing. In criminal matters, a significant number of criminal cases are drug related cases which may bottleneck the courts. The re-institution of the drug court will allow judges to dedicate more time to the litigants of civil and domestic cases and victim related crimes.

5. What steps do you think the District Court system should implement to ameliorate the growing crime situation in Jefferson Parish? Will you initiate these measures from the bench

Violent and repeat offenders need to be given meaningful sentences that will take them off the streets of Jefferson Parish, not just slaps on the wrist. First time non-violent offenders may be candidates for alternative programs other than jail, such as diversion, the I Can drug court. First time drug offenders may be candidates for programs which focus on long term rehabilitation, such as Teen Challenge, in order to decrease the rate of recidivism. These types of sentences would have to be made on a case by case basis, with particular emphasis placed upon the offender's willingness to participate in the program in a meaningful way, not simply to escape a prison sentence.
