1. What are your top three priorities for the office and how would you implement those goals?
The first priority is to restore confidence and trust in Parish Government through meaningful ethical reform and efficient delivery of services.
Ethical Reforms
A. Develop an open and fair competitive process for professional service contracts
B. Prohibit outside employment and/or conflicts of interest for "at will" employees
C. Creation of an office of Inspector General
The second priority is crime abatement. It is important to continue and improve the cooperation and coordination of the Jefferson Parish Department of Code Enforcement with the Jefferson Parish Criminal Justice System and the six municipalities within Jefferson parish to combat crime, improve the quality of life, and make Jefferson Parish a better and safer parish in which to live, work, and raise a family.
The third priority is to promote an aggressive and diverse program of Economic Development and job creation while protecting and preserving the character and integrity of our residential neighborhoods.
SOME SPECIFIC EXAMPLES INCLUDE:
A. Redevelopment of Fat City
B. Development of Bucktown Marina & West End
C. Begin planning for the redevelopment of Northrup-Grumman/Avondale Shipyard
2. Do you support the creation of the position of an Inspector General and what criteria and process would you use to evaluate and select an IG?
Yes, the creation of the position of an Inspector General is necessary. It is important to continue the process of identifying the best practices for the IG office by getting input from entities such as the Bureau of Governmental Research to ensure that the IG office is independent and adequately financed.
3. What service delivery areas would benefit from regionalization?
Flood Protection
Economic Development
Sharing assets with various law enforcement and public safety departments in the region, i.e. training and forensic facilities.
4. What additional hurricane protection measures do you favor?
A. Coastal Restoration
B. Additional funds to strengthen and extend the levee protection system on both the Eastbank and the Westbank.
