1. Given the strong mayoral system established by our City Charter, what can a Councilmember do to address the crime problem?

Councilmembers can best address the crime problem by properly funding the Criminal Justice System. The New Orleans Police Department, Criminal Sheriff, District Attorney, and Criminal Courts lack the resources for adequate staffing and training to wage an effective war against crime.

Crime prevention should also become a Council funding priority. Investing in the Juvenile Justice System - to provide counseling, mentoring, and remediation programs - can keep troubled youth out of the Criminal Justice System. Investing in NORD is another investment the Council can make in crime prevention.

2. Would you support any level of decriminalization of drugs? If so, in what form?

No.

3. How do you propose to improve communication and cooperation between the Mayor's Office and City Council regarding such issues as adoption and oversight of the budget, supervision of Department heads, etc?

Effective communication and cooperation between the mayor and council begins with mutual respect. Budget adoption can be enhanced if the mayor releases his budget earlier in the cycle. This would facilitate budget hearings in every council district to solicit citizen input and support. Interaction with city department heads should follow protocol.

4. What are your priorities for your district?

Fight crime and corruption

Create new jobs and foster economic growth and development + while building entrepreneurial capacity in the local minority-owned businesses

Ensure access to health care by re-opening Methodist Hospital now and strengthening a District E's network of neighborhood health clinics.
